Karnataka: Promotion of IPS before a day of his retirement kicks off row

Senior IPS officer T. Sunil Kumar worked as DGP for one day before he retired from service. He was promoted as DGP of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) four days ago and retired on Saturday after assuming his new charge just for day. Meanwhile, another senior IPS officer of the state, Ravindranath alleged that despite his seniority, his junior (T. Sunil Kumar) promoted but he was neglected. Ravindranath also resigned after the government released a promotion list of IPS officers.

Bengaluru: Senior IPS officer T. Sunil Kumar, who was promoted as DGP of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) four days ago, retired on Saturday. Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police P. Ravindranath resigned late night on the same day after the government released a promotion list of IPS officers.

He has reportedly alleged that his batch mate T. Sunil Kumar was promoted just a day before his retirement.

Ravindranath has submitted his resignation to Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar through the Director-General of Police Praveen Sood on October 28.

He said, "Despite my seniority, I was not promoted. Even my junior officer got promoted. Due to this kind of harassment, I am resigning. "

"A few individuals prevented justice for me. Therefore, having undergone the agony of the indirect harassment, I submit my resignation herewith to lead a peaceful life," Ravindranath said.

Reportedly, Ravindranath, the 1989 batch IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh had landed in a controversy six years ago when he was accused of allegedly clicking pictures of a woman at a cafe in Bengaluru.

Kumar handed overcharge the same evening, as he retires from service on October 31, and October 30 and 31 were government holidays.
