Bengaluru:Deputy Commissioner of Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district Sasikant Senthil resigned from his post as a civil servant on Friday. Babu Naik, who worked as Senthil's driver at the DC office was visibly disheartened following the news.
According to reports, Babu Naik rushed to the residence of Sasikant Senthil after hearing the news. Naik was reportedly close to Senthil.
A teary-eyed Naik broke down while talking to the media about the resignation.
Though Senthil stated it was a personal decision, he said in a letter to 'friends' that he feels it is unethical for him to continue as a civil servant in the government when the "fundamental building blocks of democracy are being compromised in an unprecedented manner."
He had said that resignation was not in any way connected to any event or a particular person.
Speaking to media, Naik said," I have earlier worked with 25 DC's during my time here. And Commissioner Senthil had given me the Rajyotsava Award for my service."
Naik, who is set to retire in November this year, also claimed that he was planning to resign too following the departure of his beloved civil servant.
"I also feel strongly that the coming days will present extremely difficult challenges to the basic fabric of our nation and that I would be better off outside the IAS to continue with my work at making life better for all," Senthil wrote in his farewell letter.
