Karnataka: Ira gram panchayat provides grants to people digging open well at home

Amid the nationwide lockdown, Karnataka's Ira gram panchayat announced to provide grants to those who can dig open wells near to their homes, to create employment. Under this project, 12 wells have already been identified which provide water to the locals in the summer season.

Bantwal (Karnataka): In an initiative to create employment amid the coronavirus-enforced lockdown, the gram panchayat of Ira village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district have decided to provide grants to those who can dig open water sources in their residence.

A statement was released by the Ira gram panchayat office, said, “To get sufficient water supply amid the summer season, panchayat is going to provide grants to those who can dig open wells near to their homes”.

A panchayat official said that works on 12 wells have been completed by end of the third phase of nationwide lockdown and people have been using the water.

However, the regular water supply is also there for the villagers to cope up with the water scarcity, he added.

Meanwhile, this initiative to dig open well was highly appreciated by the villagers' side.
