Karnataka farmer's unique innovation, converts cycle into low-cost tiller

With many farmers unable to afford engaging bullocks for ploughing their fields,a young farmer from Karnataka's Ballari district converted a bicycle into a cheap alternative for tilling, which effectively uproots weeds.

Ballari (Karnataka): A young farmer from Karnataka's Ballari district has found an innovative method to till fields, by transforming a bicycle into a weed removal machine.

With farmers reeling under financial crunch owing to the lockdown, engaging bullocks to do the tilling job has now become an expensive affair.

However, a young farmer Halesh found an innovative and cheaper method, as he transformed a bicycle into a weed removal tool.

One wheel of the bicycle was removed, while the handle remained intact. Rods jutting downwards were fixed to the cycle's frame to act as the tilling blades.

Finally a chain was also attached to the frame, which can be used to pull the cycle. Another person can hold the handle from behind and control the tilling.

While using bullock carts for the job could cost as much as Rs 900 for every session, Halesh's cheap tiller costs only Rs 300.

The farmer said that his invention will not only save money, but also reduce environmental pollution as it uses no electricity or fuel.
