Karnataka Election Results 2023: Winners and losers of CM Bommai's Cabinet

In the battle of the ballot, have a look at the winners and losers of outgoing Chief Minister BR Bommai's Cabinet colleagues, who entered the poll fray, exuding confidence to win win the hustings. But, some ministers emerged victorious while others ate a humble pie.

Bengaluru: The outgoing Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai defeated Congress candidate Yasir Ahmed Khan Pathan in the Shiggaon constituency of Haveri district. Bommai will be returning to the House for the fourth straight term from this seat, which he has been retaining since 2008. Congress initially named Mohammad Yusuf as its candidate. Later, it chose Yasir Ahmed Khan. Here are the winners and losers of Bommai's Cabinet.

R Ashoka (Padmanabhanagar - Kanakpura): Revenue Minister R Ashoka, who contested from two constituencies, has won the Padmanabhanagar constituency with a margin of over 54,734 votes. While R Ashoka secured 98,174 whereas Congress candidate V Raghunatha Naidu managed 43,440 votes. The party's high command has asked Ashok to contest from Kanakapura where KPCC president DK Shivakumar was fielded. But, he failed to give a tough fight to Shivakumar and the latter won the Kanakapura constituency with 1,41,117 votes.

V Somanna (Chamarajanagar - Varuna):Housing Minister V Somanna was asked to contest in two seats--Chamarajanagar and Varuna-- but Somanna has lost both constituencies. He lost the Chamarajanagar seats with a margin of over 7,383 votes. While Puttaranga Shetty secured 83,136 votes, Somanna managed 75,753 votes. Somanna was earlier elected from Govindaraja Nagar.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah won the Varuna constituency with a margin of over 46,045. Siddaramaiah secured 1,16,856, while V Somanna managed to secure 70,811 votes. Though Somanna was not keen on contesting from Varuna, the BJP top brass directed him to enter the fray from Varuna as well hoping that he would be able to give sleepless nights to former CM Siddaramaiah, who was seeking a re-election.

Govinda Karajola (Mudhol):Irrigation Minister Govinda Karajola, who contested from Mudhol constituency from Bagalkot district has lost the election against Congress candidate RB Thimmapura. RB Thimmapura won with a margin of over 17,416 votes. Thimmapura secured 76,827 votes, while Govinda Karajola managed 59,401 votes. Satish Bandivadder who sought a Congress ticket was also in the fray as a rebel candidate after the grand-old party turned down his request.

B Sreeramulu (Bellari Rural):Transport Minister B Sreeramulu, who previously represented Molakalmuru constituency lost the Bellari Rural and Congress candidate B Nagendra won the constituency with a margin of over 30,00 votes.

Madhuswamy (Chikkanayakanahalli): Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhuswamy was locked in a tough fight in the Chikkanayakanahalli constituency of Tumkur district, facing JD(S) candidate CB Suresh Babu, the minster lost the election while Suresh Babu won the election over a margin of 10,000 votes.

Araga Gyanendra (Theerthahalli):Home Minister Araga Gyanendra and former Congress Minister Kimmane Ratnakar were in a direct contest in Thirthahalli (Shivamogga district). Araga Gyanendra won the Theerthahalli constituency over a margin of 12,000 votes against Congress candidate Kimmane Ratnakar. Since 1983 Araga has been contesting the elections, till date he entered the fray 10 times, including the present contest in a row, and has created a record of sorts. He has won four times and lost five times.

CN Ashwath Narayan (Malleswaram): In the Malleswaram constituency in Bengaluru, the fight was between Higher Education Minister CN Ashwatha Narayan and Anoop Iyengar of Congress. While BJP candidate Ashwanath Narayan won the Malleswaram constituency against Congress candidate Anoop Iyengar with a margin of over 40,000 votes.

CC Patil (Naragunda):PWD Minister CC Patil has won the Naragunda constituency of Gadag district against Congress candidate BR Yawgal with a margin of over 2,000 votes. Yawgal had won five times in the same constituency while Patil won thrice.

Prabhu Chavan (Aurad):Animal Husbandry Minister Prabhu Chavan was contesting from the Aurad constituency in Bidar district has won against Congress candidate Bhimsen Rao Shinde over a margin of 9,000 votes.

Murugesha Nirani (Beelagi):There was a direct contest between Industry Minister Murugesha Nirani and JT Patil of Congress in the Bilagi constituency of Bagalkot district. Nirani lost the election and Payil has won with a margin of over 10,000 votes. They had been fighting against each other for the past three decades. In six elections, both have won three times each.

Shivram Hebbar (Yallapur):Labour Minister Shivram Hebbar won the Tallapur constituency against Congress candidate VS Patil with a margin of over 3,000 votes. Shivram was elected on Congress ticket in 2013 and 2018. He later joined the BJP and won by-election.

ST Somasekhar (Yashvantapura):Cooperative Minister ST Somasekhar was seeking re-election from the Yeshwanthpur constituency of Bengaluru. Somasekhar lost and Javarai Gowda from JDS won the poll with a margin of over 20,000 votes. Somasekhar, who had won twice from Congress in 2013 and 2018, was re-elected on a BJP ticket in the 2019 by-election.

BC Patil (Hirekerur):Agriculture Minister BC Patil faced tough competition in the Hirekerur constituency of Haveri district. UB Bankar, a former MLA, who left BJP and joined the Congress, won the constituency with a margin of 15,000 votes. There has been a rivalry running between them since 2004.

Bairathi Basavaraj (KR Puram):Urban Development Minister Bairathi Basavaraj has won the KR Puran constituency with a margin of over 15,000 votes against Congress candidate DK Mohan.

Dr K Sudhakar (Chikkaballapur):Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar, who contested from the Chikkaballapur constituency, lost the poll while Congress candidate Pradeep Eshwar won with a margin of 10,000 votes. Sudhakar won in 2013 and 2018 elections on the Congress ticket and later joined the BJP.

K Gopalaiah (Mahalakshmi Layout):Excise Minister K Gopalaiah, who contested from the Mahalakshmi Layout constituency, has won with a margin of 50,000 votes against Congress candidate Kesavamurthy S.

Sasikala Jolle (Nippani):Minister of Muzrai Sasikala Jolle won the Nipani constituency in the Belagavi district with a margin of 8,000 votes against Congress candidate Kakasaheb P Patil. In 2008, Jolle faced her first election and was defeated. Later, she succeeded winning in 2013 and 2018 elections.

MTB Nagaraj (Hosakote):Municipal Administration Minister MTB Nagaraj, who was currently a member of the Legislative Council, had taken an electoral plunge again from the Hoskote constituency. Nagaraj lost and Congress candidate Sharath Bachegowda won the the election with a margin of 5,000 votes. Nagaraj had left Congress and joined BJP and lost the 2019 by-election.

KC Narayana Gowda (KR Pete):Minister KC Narayana Gowda lost and Congress candidate BL Devaraja has won from the KR Pete constituency over a margin of 20,000 votes. Narayana Gowda, who won in the 2013 and 2018 elections on JD (S) ticket, joined the BJP.

BC Nagesh (Tiptur):Primary Education Minister BC Nagesh and K Shadakshari from Congress were locked in a fierce fight in the Tiptur constituency of Tumkur district. Nagesh lost and Shadakshari won by a margin of 15,000 votes. Shadakshari, who was elected as an MLA in 1999 has been facing competition from Nagesh since 2008. In the past three elections, they have been alternating their victories. Nagesh won the 2008 and 2018 elections.

V Sunil Kumar (Karkala):Minister Sunil Kumar has won the Karkala constituency of Udupi district against Congress candidate Udaya Shetty Muniyal with a margin of over 5,000 votes.

Halappa Achar (Yalaburgi):Child and Women Development Minister Halappa Achar has lost and Congress candidate Basavaraja Rayareddy won the Yalaburgi constituency over a margin of 15,000 votes.

Shankar Patil Munenakoppa (Navalagund):Sugarcane Minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, who contested from the Navalgund constituency, has lost while Congress candidate Kona Reddy won over a margin of 20,000 votes. Kona Reddy, who won on JD (S) ticket in 2013 was defeated by Munenakoppa in 2018.

Muniratna (RR Nagar):Horticulture Minister Muniratna has won the RR Nagar constituency with a margin of over 10,000 votes against the deceased IAS officer DK Ravi's wife Kusuma Hanumantarayappa of Congress. Muniratna, who won from Congress in 2013 and 2018, then joined the BJP and won again in the by-elections.
