Karnataka asks Railways to announce mandatory passenger registration in 'Seva Sindhu Portal'

In a bid to keep a track of corona-infected persons, the Chief Secretary of Karnataka, TM Vijay Bhaskar wrote a letter to Chairman Railway Board, Vinod Kumar Yadav, on Saturday, urging him to make announcements that it is compulsory for all passengers travelling to Karnataka to register under 'Seva Sindhu portal'.

New Delhi:TheKarnataka government, on Saturday, asked Indian Railways to inform all passengers to mandatorily register under 'Seva Sindhu portal' before travelling to the state aiming to keep a track of Corona infected persons.

The Chief Secretary of Karnataka, TM Vijay Bhaskar wrote a letter to Chairman Railway Board, Vinod Kumar Yadav urging him to make announcements at Railway stations regarding the registration of passengers under Seva Sindhu portal.

"Thousands of passengers are coming to Karnataka from New Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra and other states through trains everyday. But most of the passengers have not registered under Seva Sindhu portal of Government of Karnataka, as 20 passengers are not aware of this fact," stated Vijay Bhaskar in his letter.

He further added, "If the passengers are not registered under Seva Sindhu, the State Government will not be able to track them, therefore it is necessary to create awareness among passengers regarding registration under Seva Sindhu portal."

Therefore, he suggested that the origin railway stations make announcements for the passengers that it is compulsory for all passengers travelling to Karnataka to register under the portal.

The state government has also clarified that those passengers who do not registered under the portal, won't be allowed for home quarantine after their journey to Karnataka. The Chief Secretary asked railways to give awareness to passengers at the time of booking tickets.

Karnataka has registered 378 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the toll of positive cases to 5213, including 3184 active cases.
