Saw a 'person' jumping from bridge into river, claims fisherman

A fisherman claimed to have seen a man, likely to be CCD founder VG Siddhartha, jumping into the Netravathi river from the bridge in Karnataka's Mangaluru on Monday evening, police said on Tuesday.

"We have recorded the statement of fisherman Symond D'Souza that he saw a man jumping off the bridge into the river when he was fishing nearby," Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kodandaram told media.

Search operations are currently underway to locate missing VG Siddhartha. NDRF team conducts rescue operation in Nethravathi river, Mangaluru. 

"Air Cushion Vehicle (H-198) is undertaking search in Nethravathi River and providing support to CG diving teams. Three diving teams, along with the district disaster relief team, has been deputed to carry out search for the missing person," the Coast Guard said in a statement.

According to reports, a person is suspected to have jumped off the Ullal bridge, on the Nethravathi river at around 9 pm. According to his car driver, Siddhartha is suspected to be the person who may have allegedly jumped off the bridge. 

The driver stated that Siddhartha travelled till the Ullal bridge from Bengaluru in his car. He then asked his driver to stop the vehicle following which he walked for some distance and then disappeared. 

Meanwhile, the driver kept waiting and eventually reported the matter to the police.
