Engg graduates set up virgin coconut oil production plant in Hassan

Two engineering graduates have set up a Virgin Coconut Oil Production Plant in Hassan that produces oil using coconuts instead of copra.

Hassan (Karnataka): Generally coconut oil is extracted from dry coconut (copra). However, the coconut oil produced here is pure coconut oil made from raw coconut. This Virgin Coconut Oil Production Plant has been set up by Akash and Harish, youths from Hassan district who are engineering graduates.

Akash and Harish are friends who are graduated as Mechanical Engineers from the same college and started working. But they decided to quit their job as they were interested in agriculture. They returned to their hometown Hassan to pursue a career in agriculture.

Virgin coconut oil

Speaking on this Harish said, "after many attempts, this coconut oil production plant was set up. We thought of making virgin coconut oil using the huge quantity of coconuts found in our Karnataka and we achieved success." He said that each of them is earning nearly a lakh per month and are proud of themselves.

Akash said, "We planned to set up an oil extraction plant through raw Coconut. at the initial stage, we faced a lack of capital experience. But we travelled across the state to increase the knowledge needed to establish the project." He also said they visited Kerala and Tamil Nadu to acquire knowledge on the subject.

They have adopted a proven method and are making coconut oil without adulteration. Their family also supported them in their work.
