Debt-ridden Karnataka couple 'throw' children into lake

A debt-ridden couple from Mallanayakanahalli village in Karnataka allegedly pushed their two children into a lake as part of a suicide pact, which did not go as planned.

Bellary:A couple who was facing financial crisis decided to kill themselves, but ended up throwing their children into a lake in Kudligi taluk in Karnataka's Bellary district.

The couple - Chiranjeevi and Nandini - allegedly killed their two children, Khushi (3) and Chiru (1) by pushing them into Ramadurga lake here while coming back from a hospital.

As per the suicide pact made by the duo, they had decided to kill their children before committing suicide. But, things did not go as planned. After killing their children, the couple quarrelled over who should jump into the lake first and neither of them did.

An hour after the quarrel, Chiranjeevi told his wife that he was going to get his motorbike, but never returned. Scared and crying, Nandini called her relatives and told them the children had drowned in the lake. A search was carried out but nothing there was no trace of the children.

A case has been registered at Gudekote Police Station and a search is on for the children and their father. The couple married four years ago, reports said.
