Hyderabad: The hashtag #CryPMPayCM started trending on Twitter after Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi took a jibe at PM Modi over his remark that Congress leaders made personal-level abusive remarks on him over 91 times. The Twitter storm started moments after Priyanka took on the PM's abusive remarks at a poll rally in Karnataka's Bagalkote.
One of the Twitterati lauded Priyanka for 'giving it back to Modi in great style'. Rahul Gandhi's sister in her yesterday's speech told Modi that everybody has to take such verbal attacks in their stride when engaged in public life. Messages, memes, videos, and also press reports flooded the hashtag, 'CryPMPayCM'. The Congress Karnataka leaders and cadres are in an upbeat mood following a sudden outpouring of support for Priyanka's remark.
In the social media war, Congress posed a serious challenge to the saffron digital brigade in the Karnataka elections. Right from the 'chai walla' to the 'Modi surname defamation' and 'poisonous snake' remarks, PM Modi had tried to play the sympathy card on the Karnataka electoral stage. However, Congress adopted an aggressive stance and went on to call Modi a 'CryPM'.
The Congress sympathisers used the occasion to launch an attack on Modi, saying that the 'CryPM' was coming to the rescue of the corrupt 'PayCM' of Karnataka. BJP Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has been at the receiving end following allegations of corruption during his current term.
Responding to the Congress remarks, CM Bommai said that the grand old party was resorting to 'abuse politics' as it had no chance of winning the elections in the State. While the Congress was in the offensive mode by calling Modi a 'venomous snake' and a 'CryPM' at the height of the election campaign, the BJP leaders chose to remain defensive, taking strong objection to the Congress leaders' remarks.
