CCB arrests former corporator in Bengaluru riots case

Zakir Hussain who was an accused in the Bengaluru riot case appeared only once for the inquiry and then went absconding fearing arrest. He had switched off his mobile and was in hiding for the past two months. It is alleged that Zakir had joined hands with former mayor Sampath Raj to trigger riot in an attempt to hurt MLA Akhand Srinivasamoorthy politically.

Bengaluru:Central Crime Branch of Karnataka Police arrested former corporator Zakir Hussain who was found guilty in setting fire to MLA Akhand Srinivasamurthy's house during a riot in the KJ Halli and DJ Halli. A court has sent him to judicial custody until December 16.

Zakir Hussain who was an accused in the Bengaluru riot case appeared only once for the inquiry and then went absconding fearing arrest. He had switched off his mobile and was in hiding for the past two months. A special team led by DCP Ravi Kumar continued the search for Hussain. He was arrested by the police yesterday and brought to the Chamarajapet office. It is alleged that Zakir had joined hands with former mayor Sampath Raj to riot in an attempt to hurt MLA Akhand Srinivasamoorthy politically.

Zakir Hussain was first taken to a government hospital for a health check-up and later produced before the court through video conferencing, wherein he was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

It is alleged that both Zakir Hussain and Sampath Raj conspired to trigger large scale riots in the city, in a bid to taint Akhand Srinivasamoorthy.
