Campaigning ends for May 10 Karnataka assembly polls

Holding public meetings and open campaigning was prohibited 48 hours before the commencement of the poll. The poll officials will ensure strict adherence to the model code of conduct by the candidates belonging to different political parties.

Bengaluru:The campaigning for Karnataka assembly polls ended on Monday at 6 pm. However, the candidates can do canvassing visiting the doorsteps of households. Thus, the 40-day campaigning carried out by different political parties was completed today. On the other hand, a door-to-door campaign will be conducted from Monday evening to Tuesday evening till 6 pm. On the final day of the campaigning, contestants made a whirlwind tour of their respective constituencies, appealing to people to cast their votes.

The poll officials will ensure strict adherence to the model code of conduct by the candidates belonging to different political parties. The gathering of more than five persons has been restricted after coming into force prohibitory order under Section 144. But, the door-to-door campaign will be allowed within 48 hours.

After coming into force the zero hours i.e; after the end of the open campaign period of 48 hours, persons from outside and political persons, who are not voters of a constituency, shall not remain in the constituency. Such persons will be asked to vacate the constituency immediately. This rule even applies to a candidate or polling agent, who is not a voter in the constituency.

The constituencies will be declared dry until polling is completed. The sale of liquor is prohibited from May 8 at 6 pm to May 10. District Collectors of all 26 bordering districts of neighbouring states have issued an order to declare the Dry Day. No loudspeakers will be allowed during the 48 hours.
