Butterfly park to be opened in Lalbagh

The Horticulture Department is planning to create an open-to-air butterfly park within Lalbagh. Spread across a vast expanse of 240 acres, the botanical gardens has close to 900 genera and 2,500 plant species.

Bengaluru: Lalbagh, one of the renowned botanical gardens in Bengaluru, will now host a 'butterfly park' in its premises.

Officials of the Department of Horticulture are planning to create an open-to-air butterfly park.

Spread across a vast expanse of 240 acres, the botanical gardens has close to 900 genera and 2,500 plant species.

M. Jagadeesh, Joint Director of Horticulture, has said that the 'Butterfly Park' would be developed by November.

Butterflies can survive only in 25-30 degrees, supplementary atmosphere.

A butterfly will lay 150-200 eggs approximately but its lifespan is merely 14 days.

Meanwhile, the Horticulture Department has decided to introduce parakeets in the botanical gardens. They further said that the 'Butterfly Park' would be an aesthetic and environment-friendly addition to Lalbagh.
