Bengaluru:BJP has lost its only fort in the south today with its defeat in Karnataka elections. The party was pinning its hopes on old Mysore but that too was shattered along with losing its citadel in central Karnataka.
In this assembly election, the ruling BJP has not been able to open accounts in nine districts. Recording a zero performance in nine districts, the party has to be satisfied with only one position each in eight districts. In the remaining seven districts, BJP won only two seats each. Overall, performance in the 24 districts was unsatisfactory.
BJP has managed to retain Bangalore City, Belgaum, Bidar, Udupi and Shimoga. BJP has bagged 15 seats in Bangalore City, seven seats in Belgaum, six in South Kannada, five in Udupi, four in Bidar, three in Shimoga and three in Dharwad. The party has failed to retain strongholds including Chikkamagaluru, Bellary and Kodagu. An abysmally poor performance has been recorded in Mandya, Ramnagar, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar and Kolar.
