Hyderabad:Congress emerged as the clear winner in the Karnataka assembly elections with a vote share of 43.2%. The BJP, on the other hand, secured a vote share of 35.7%, while the JD (S) managed to secure a vote share of 13.3%. The 2023 assembly polls witnessed a fierce battle between the Congress and the BJP. Despite facing stiff competition from the BJP, the Congress managed to secure a comfortable victory, largely due to its strong performance in rural areas. The party won a majority of the seats in rural areas, which helped it to compensate for its weak performance in urban areas.
The BJP, on the other hand, had a strong presence in urban areas, but failed to make significant inroads in rural areas. This led to the party falling short of the majority mark in the assembly. The JD (S) managed to retain its vote share from the previous election, but failed to convert it into a significant number of seats. The party won only 32 seats, which was the same number as in the previous election.
The Congress’ victory in the 2023 assembly polls is particularly significant as it marks the party’s highest vote share in the last five assembly polls. In the 2018 assembly polls, the Congress secured a vote share of 38.61% and won 78 seats, while the BJP had secured a vote share of 36.43% and won 104 seats. The JD (S) had secured a vote share of 20.6% and won 37 seats.
In the 2013 assembly polls, the Congress had secured a vote share of 36.7% and won 122 seats, while the BJP had secured a vote share of 20.7% and won 40 seats. The JD (S) had secured a vote share of 20.4% and won 40 seats. In the 2008 assembly polls, the Congress had secured a vote share of 35.1% and won 80 seats, while the BJP had secured a vote share of 33.9% and won 110 seats. The JD (S) had secured a vote share of 19.4% and won 28 seats.
