Ammonia gas leak leaves 20 affected in K'taka

Udipi (Karnataka):As many as 20 workers have been hospitalized after inhaling ammonia gas which leaked at a fish factory situated in Devalakunda village in Karnataka's Udipi district on Monday, official sources said.

The leakage occurred from a pipe from one of the containers connected to the Malpefresh Marine Export Pvt. factory.

The gas leaked from the unit, where the employees were working following which they started complaining of giddiness, vomiting and chest pain.

Ammonia gas leak leaves 20 affected in K'taka

On receiving information of the leakage, two fire tenders from fire and emergency services were rushed to the spot and they brought the situation under control.

The affected persons are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Kundapur area, they added.

Sridhar Naik, the Kandloor police station inspector, said he has inspected the site and a probe into the matter has been initiated.
