Ahead of K'taka bypolls, I-T raids Cong candidate KB Koliwad

With the Karnataka bypolls around the corner, Congress candidate from Ranebennuru, KB Koliwad came under the I-T scanner as his residence was raided late on Tuesday night. Congress supporters, who protested at his residence, alleged that state home minister Basavaraj Bommai was behind the raid.

Ranebennuru: Ahead of the crucial Karnataka Assembly bypolls, I-T and excise sleuths conducted a raid at Congress candidate KB Koliwad's residence in Ranebennuru late on Tuesday night.

Congress supporters raised anti-BJP slogans

According to reports, IT and excise officials arrived at Koliwad's residence in Vageesh colony at around 10 pm on Tuesday night and carried out the raid for close to one hour.

The raid was reportedly conducted on a public complaint that Rs 10 crore and illegal liquor was stored at his Koliwad's residence. However, the officers reportedly returned empty-handed as they did not find any unaccounted cash at Koliwad's residence, who is contesting on a Congress ticket from Ranebennuru in the December 5 bypolls.

As the news of the raid spread, Congress supporters swarmed Koliwad's residence and engaged in sloganeering against the incumbent BJP government in the state. The supporters alleged that the raid was conducted on the directions of state Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Police personnel were deployed in heavy numbers at the spot as the situation got tense late in the night.
