73 students test Covid positive after schools reopen in Karnataka's Tumakuru

Tumakuru (Karnataka):As many as 73 students in Karnataka's Tumakuru district have tested positive for Covid-19 after schools reopened on September 6. Of these, 39 are girls and the remaining, boys.

Dr. Nagendrappa, District Health Officer(DHO), said these students have been quarantined and given medical treatment. He said there was a possibility that students would opt out of schools fearing the infection and added that it was difficult to determine where the infection would spread to the other healthy students. Sources said schools were reopened in districts where the test positivity rate is low.

On September 6, schools across the state recorded an average attendance of 55%. B C Nagesh, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, said the government decided to re-open schools only after obtaining approval from the state's technical advisory committee on Covid-19.

So far, 29,67,083 cases have been confirmed in the state. A total of 15,755 active cases and 14 Covid-related deaths were reported on September 17. The positivity rate for September 17 was 0.63% while the case fatality rate was 1.57%.
