169 ancient coins found in Karnataka village

Pots containing 169 coins weighing nearly two kilos were found when the ground was being dug to reconstruct the house of one, Lakshmavva Kurubar. Two gold coins and six silver seals were also found in the clay pots. Sources said that the name of some Queen Victoria of Britain has been written on the coins.

Haveri: A group of locals found some clay pots full of antique silver and gold coins dating back to 19th century, from a house of a person at Verdi village in Haveri district of Karnataka on Tuesday night.

According to sources, the pots, containing 169 coins weighing nearly two kilos, was found when the ground was being dug to reconstruct the house of one, Lakshmavva Kurubar. Two gold coins and six silver seals were also found in the clay pots. The two gold coins weighing 200 gm.

Sources said that the name of some Queen Victoria of Britain has been written on the coins. The coins seemed to have archaeological value and hence we informed the district administration, sources added.
