Woman rides 1800 km to reach Jamshedpur from Mumbai amid lockdown

Amid coronavirus lockdown, Sonia Das rode 1800 km on a two-wheeler to reach her hometown in Jamshedpur from Mumbai after not getting any help. She had earlier urged CM Hemant Soren and Bollywood actor Sonu Sood to make arrangements for her return through a Twitter post but failed.

Jamshedpur:Sonia Das, who was stranded in Mumbai since past four months amid coronavirus-induced lockdown, reached her native place Kadma in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur by riding a two-wheeler on Friday.

Before embarking her journey by road, Das urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Bollywood actor Sonu Sood to make arrangements for her return but she failed in getting any help.

Das was working at a production house in Mumbai and her family resides in Bhatia area of Kadma. Her husband Abhishek Ghosh is suffering from a heart problem and they have a five-year-old child.

As all the shooting work came to a halt amid lockdown, Das became jobless and following financial crunch she also had to vacate her rented accommodation. Following this, she shifted to her friend, Sabiya's house in Pune.

Not getting any help, Das decided to travel by road along with Sabiya to reach her house and left for Jamshedpur from Mumbai. She arranged Rs 5,000 from her acquaintances and started her 1,800 km-long journey on July 21.

After reaching Raipur on July 22, she was stopped by the administration due to unavailability of proper document and vehicle pass. Her husband visited the local Deputy Commissioner's office to get the vehicle pass but returned empty-handed.

She resumed her journey on July 23.

Being a responsible citizen, after reaching Jamshedpur she informed the administration about her travel and got admitted to a quarantine centre.

Sonia said that this was necessary as she is having a child as well as an ailing husband at home.
