Latehar (Jharkhand):Due to a unique tradition of the city village of Latehar, the rules of the Prime Minister Housing Scheme had to be changed. Simply because the residents are not ready to roof their houses till their temple get a golden dome.
Latehar Nagar residents refuse roofed houses under Awas Yojana till their temple gets golden dome According to the villagers, their ancestors had taken a pledge that they will get the roofing of their houses built only when the city makes the dome of the Bhagwati temple to be made of gold.
It is also believed that for casting the roof, the people of the village have to go to the temple of mother and offer flowers and if the flower falls then it is understood that the mother has given the order. If this does not happen, something untoward may happen.
Meanwhile, the Modi government announced the PM Awas Yojana to provide pucca houses to the poor. Villagers of Latehar Nagar village were also allotted Prime Minister's accommodation, but the villagers refused to make the roof in their house.
If the villagers were so adamant on their tradition, then the district administration took special approval from the government. The government gave permission to replace the roof with asbestos by changing the plan.
The villagers are still following the promise made by their ancestors with full faith. The administration also respects this, so the PM Housing Scheme rules were also softened. Amidst all this, the question is that when will the day come, when this resolution will be fulfilled and the city Bhagwati temple will get a gold dome.
