Girl gang-raped by over 5 men in Jharkhand, dies

Allegedly lured by the accused, the tribal girl was taken to a deserted place near her village in East Tundi block on Friday night, where she was raped. The police have arrested five men, including two minors, suspected of having raped the girl.

Dhanbad (Jharkhand): A teenage girl died hours after being allegedly gang-raped by more than five people, who were attending a wedding party, in a village in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand on Friday.

The police have apprehended five accused, including two minors, and is on the lookout for the other suspects believed to be involved in the heinous crime.

"We suspect more than five people were involved in the crime. We will take the arrested persons to district headquarters (Dhanbad) for interrogation," said Aman Kumar, Superintendent of Police (Dhanbad Rural).

Allegedly lured by the accused, the tribal girl was taken to a deserted place near her village in East Tundi block on Friday night, where she was raped, informed Kumar.

The victim's father told the reporter that he saw his daughter being brought home by some men in an unconscious state.

"We sensed something was wrong and got hold of them (the accused) and kept them in our house," said the victim's father.

She was then taken to a hospital where she died succumbing to her injuries, he said.

Meanwhile, the body has been sent for post-mortem at Patliputra Medical College Hospital for further investigation.
