Khunti: A Naxal, who had a reward of Rs 15-lakh on his head, was killed in a police encounter in Murhu area of the district, official sources said.
Jidan Gudia's body was identified by the police after the encounter that took place on Monday morning, they said, adding that the Naxal was killed in a joint operation of the district police and the CRPF personnel.
They said Gudia's killing is a major blow to the Peoples' Liberation Front of India (PLFI). The encounter took place after a tip-off was received that he would be passing through the area, the sources said, adding that the place was cordoned off and as Gudia started firing at the security forces, they retaliated and killed him.
An AK-47 rifle, a number of live cartridges and some other things were recovered from his body.
