Sahibganj (Jharkhand): A body of a 13-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped, killed and buried has been exhumed on Tuesday by police at Lakhimpur village under Ranga police limits in Jharkhand's Sahibganj.

Initially, the police tried their best to suppress the case, but after getting a tip-off over the social media, police exhumed the body and sent to a local hospital for postmortem. Reportedly, the area where the crime took place falls in Barhait, represented by chief minister Hemant Soren.

According to sources, the alleged crime occurred on October 9 but police filed an FIR on Tuesday while initiating a probe formally. Four persons have been detained based on the statement of the victim’s friend.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Superintendent of Police Anuranjan Kispotta said," Two minor girls had gone to meet their friend and stayed out of their house for two days. While returning on Friday, they were intercepted by a few youths on the way. The victim’s friend managed to escape. On Saturday evening, the body of the second minor girl was found near the house. The family buried the dead body in a nearby field."

"All this information have been provided by the friend of the deceased. Based on her statement, four persons are being questioned. As soon as the matter came to cognizance, the police exhumed the body and sent it for postmortem. Now the matter will be resolved once the report of the postmortem will be made available," Kispotta said.

Unconfirmed reports said the victim’s parents were allegedly pressurized by the local panchayat to dispose of the body against their wishes.

The reports also claimed that the parents had tried to lodge an FIR of rape and murder with the Ranga police station on Saturday but was not accepted.

Opposition is questioning the government

Lakhimpur village falls in the Chief Minister Hemant Soren's assembly constituency Barheet, so politics has also started heating up after this incident has come to light.

Reacting to the incident, BJP said lawlessness in the state, especially in terms of crime against women and children, is increasing under the coalition government.

Former Chief Minister Raghuvar Das has tweeted that girls are not safe in CM Hemant Soren's assembly constituency. He also tweeted to Rahul Gandhi and asked when will he come to take care of these girls or not?

BJP legislature party leader Babulal Marandi has alleged that police are trying to cover up the incident.

Meanwhile, BJP Ranchi Mahanagar took out a candle march against the Sahibganj incident at Albert Ekka Chowk in Ranchi on Tuesday.
