New Delhi: Member of Parliament from Darbhanga constituency, Kirti Azad who recently joined Congress will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Dhanbad constituency in Jharkhand.
Kirti Azad talks to ETV Bharat The Congress has fielded Azad from Dhanbad as the Darbhanga seat was acquired by RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) as part of the seat-sharing pact between the two parties.
Kirti Azad who is a former Indian cricketer is the son of former Chief Minister of Bihar Bhagwat Jha Azad. After suspended by BJP for anti-party activities, he joined the Congress party in February.
Talking to ETV Bharat, Azad said, "I had worked at the Steel Authority of India's Bokaro unit for 12 years and my ancestral home is also in Jharkhand. Therefore, I thank the Congress party for giving me an opportunity to contest elections from Dhanbad. I will move forward with the Congress leaders of Dhanbad and will try my level best to win the elections."
Specifying the developmental activities took place in Dhanbad, he said that the road, water and electricity facilities here are yet to be improved. Although BJP claims of various developments taking place in the state during the NDA government, no such growth is visible here, he added.
"People who are calling me an outsider and terming the elections as external versus local, they should know the fact that the people want development and the only thing they see is work. Hence, such campaigns will not benefit them in any way," he said.
