Ranchi (Jharkhand): At a time when people are willing to go local, the Jharkhand State Khadi Board is making silk rakhis for the Rakshabandhan festival, that are giving tough competition to the plastic Chinese threads in the market.

The rakhi threads, which are being made out of tasar silk, are also better for the environment when compared to their plastic counterparts.

The Jharkhand State Khadi board is also providing employment to many women who are engaged in the production of these hand-made rakhis.

Owing to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, all preventive measures are being undertaken at the state khadi village industries board. Women are exercising physical distancing while making the rakhis, and it is mandatory for them to wear face-masks.

All the women begin working only after going through temperature screening and washing their hands with soap.

Further, all rakhi threads are sanitised properly before being packed.

The Khadi board rakhis, which are made out of silk threads, artificial pearls, and beads, are giving a tough competition to the Chinese-made rakhis.

While the plastic Chinese rakhis had been dominating the market for the past few years, this time around, they have almost vanished from the market, with the demand high for 'swadeshi' products.
