Ranchi:In an updated strategy to dupe people of money, the cybercriminals are now posing as health officials promising the COVID-19 vaccine. They are using the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) technology to call in the name of a large pharmaceutical company and also send a message to provide vaccine via SMS or e-mail.

A link in e-mail and message is sent by cybercriminals, where once you click on it, all the information in your mobile phone goes to the cybercriminals after which money is withdrawn from accounts.

How do they cheat

Cybercriminals call people or send a link via email, which is based on a particular software that is uploaded to your mobile phone as soon as you click on the link. Other software can also be added through this hack software by cybercriminals easily taking over the entire system. The hackers can after that see every activity of your phone like What message is coming? Who's calling? What message are you sending to whom, etc.

Cybercriminals taking advantage of corona infection

Usually, in today's time, most people save bank related information on their phones owing to corona. This is what the cybercriminal bank on. They call or message posing as health officials and send dubious links.

According to Ranchi City SP Saurabh, earlier cybercriminals used to call people by pretending to block ATM cards, get loans, and install towers of mobile phones, but now these methods are quite old. Now cyber thugs are directly hacking people's mobiles. For this, they send anonymous links on people's phones through various mediums. Everyone is currently in a panic due to the corona infection. Cybercriminals have started taking advantage of this panic.

Cheating in the name of COVID

The cybercriminals posing as officials from big hospitals call and tell people that they are doing registration for the distribution of vaccines. They get the e-mail IDs and send a mail with the dubious link in it.

They also ask for Rs 500 for the registration fee and when the user clicks on the link an OTP is received. The cybercriminal then insists that OTP is important for getting the vaccine and that the user should share it with them. As soon as the OTP is shared, money is withdrawn from the user's account.

Not necessary to provide Aadhaar number for vaccination

According to Cyber DSP Yashodhara, awareness is the only way to avoid cybercriminals. In such a situation, it is important that people should not let the fear arising out of COVID-19 become a loophole. It is important for everyone to know that it is not necessary to give the Aadhaar card number for vaccination of COVID-19. No such announcement has been made.

An alert has also been issued by the Jharkhand Police on social media regarding this new move of cybercriminals.
