Giridih (Jharkhand):Uttar Pradesh's Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj has been forcibly quarantined on Saturday by the Giridih district administration in Jharkhand for coming to an Ashram here without safety measures.

In compliance with the direction of district's Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Preran Dixit, the police intercepted Maharaj near Pirtand police station and forcibly took him to Shanti Bhavan Ashram in Giridih for home isolation.

Maharaj, during his return to Dhanbad by road from where he had to take a train to Delhi, was intercepted by district administration.

According to district administration officials, Maharaj had not informed the state government about his visit and therefore Giridih put him in quarantine for 14 days.

Expressing his displeasure over the incident, Maharaj said, "Before this visit, I had given information to the Giridih district administration along with the officials of the state government. Despite this, I was stopped here. I reached Jharkhand yesterday and visited the Ashram this afternoon to meet my old aged mother but the district administration here behaved so rudely and forcibly quarantined me."

"This is my own Ashram and I come here regularly, my mother is 97 years old and we don't know when she will die. I did not make any public gatherings and any meetings here but the administration chased my vehicle and forcibly took me for the isolation hub. If someone stays somewhere for 24 hours then, he has to be quarantined but this is totally unethical. The state government here is playing conspiracy through politics," he said to media persons.

Notably, looking at the surge of Covid-19 cases, the State Government has passed an order on July 17 making it mandatory for everyone to provide their personal details by filling up an online form before entering Jharkhand either by rail, road or air.

It further said that he or she will also have to stay in home quarantine for 14 days while observing all the guidelines issued in this regard after entering into the state.
