Will set up an academy in J&K to train local youth: Suresh Raina

Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has signed an MoU with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council to train budding local youth across the Union Territory. Raina was roped in by the LG administration to promote cricket activities among youth in an attempt to wane them away from violence.

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council today signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with cricketer Suresh Raina for training budding cricketers across the Union Territory.

The MoU was signed in presence of LG, Manoj Sinha, CS BVR Subramaniam and Principal Secretary to LG Nitishwar Kumar.

An official spokesman said that the initiative will complement the efforts of the J&K govt which has already created state-of-the-art sporting facilities across the UT & is continuously adding world-class amenities to build a superior talent pool.

The spokesman said that Raina would be a dream mentor for young talents from J&K who are working hard to get into the big leagues and will be immensely benefitted by this collaboration

Raina was roped in by the LG administration to promote cricket activities among youth in an attempt to wane them away from violence.

However, due to COVID-19 pandemic sports activities were suspended.

The sports council officials said that Raina would prove to be an exemplary mentor for young talent from J&K and this collaboration will hugely benefit the youth.

Raina, one of the star cricketers of the Indian cricket team, said that talented players would be identified and selected from across J&K, who will be trained by professionals to compete at the international level.

"I have played cricket for years and hopefully I will help all those aspiring cricketers of J&K," Raina said during a press conference.
