Hyderabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan raked up the Kashmir issue during his virtual address to the UN General Assembly on Friday. He is the seventh on the list of speakers to address the UNGA.

On Pakistan-India relations, the Prime Minister said, "Pakistan desires peace with India, as with all its neighbours." However, he underlined that a "sustainable peace” in the region depends upon "resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute."

Accusing the Indian government of intensifying repression in Kashmir, Khan said, "The onus remains on India to create a conducive environment for meaningful and result-oriented engagement with Pakistan."

The Prime Minister also sequenced three conditions — centered on Kashmir — to maintain peaceful ties with India: "One, reverse its unilateral and illegal measures instituted since 5th August 2019; secondly, stop its oppression and human rights violations against the people of Kashmir; and three, halt and reverse the demographic changes in the occupied territory."

The PM went on to add: "India’s military build-up, development of advanced nuclear weapons, and acquisition of destabilizing conventional capabilities can erode mutual deterrence between the two countries."

India came down heavily on Pakistan at the UNGA reiterating that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were, are, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. India’s First Secretary Sneha Dubey, addressing the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday said, "This includes areas that are under illegal occupation of Pakistan. We call upon Pakistan to immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation."
