Police seized most wanted militant Abrar in a dramatic swoop on his car on a highway near Srinagar. The militant was later killed in firefight between militants and security forces.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir):A video of Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, Abrar, who was captured by security forces on the Baramullah highway near Srinagar and later killed in a gunbattle at Maloora village on the outskirts of the city has gone viral. In the video, the militant can be seen taken by the forces for interrogation.

Police had specific input about militants carrying out an attack on the highway. Keeping in view the seriousness of the input, a few joint check posts of the police and the CRPF were placed along the highway. At Parimpora, a vehicle was stopped and their identity was sought. The person sitting in the back seat opened his bag and took out a grenade. The police swung into action and grabbed him and his driver. One of them was identified as Abrar, a top LeT commander," IGP Kumar said.

"He was put to joint interrogation by the police, CRPF and the army. One pistol and hand grenades were recovered from him. During interrogation, he disclosed that he had kept his AK-47 rifle at a house located in Malhoora. Thereafter, he was taken to that house to recover the weapon. On reaching the house, one of his associates hiding inside the house fired at the police," Kumar said.

"Three CRPF personnel were injured and Abrar was also hit. In the ensuing gunfire, a foreign terrorist who fired from inside the house was neutralised and Abrar was also killed. Two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the site. Abrar was involved in the killings of several security force personnel and civilians," IGP Kumar said.
