36 Union Ministers to visit Jammu & Kashmir to spread Govt policies

Union Ministers will soon visit Jammu & Kashmir to spread Govt policies with regard to the development of the UT and its people, especially in the last 5 months, after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J&K into Union Territories.

New Delhi: In a bid to spread initiatives and policies of the government with regard to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and its people, 36 Union Ministers will visit the region from 18th-25th January.

According to Home Ministry officials, these 36 union ministers will visit 51 places in Jammu and 8 places in Kashmir from January 18 to 24.

This is the first such visit by the ministers to Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution that accorded special status to the region.

"The main task of the ministers will be to share development initiatives taken by the government and reach out to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and inform them about the projects and other initiatives which will be rolled out in the region," said a senior central government official, seeking anonymity.

According to a note accessed by ETV Bharat, MoS (Home) G. Kishan Reddy will be travelling to the Ganderbal town on January 22 and Manigam on January 23.

Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad will visit Sopore in Baramulla district on January 24. Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani is slated to visit Katra and Panthal areas of the Reasi district on January 19. Gen VK Singh (retd) is scheduled to visit Tikri in Udhampur of January 20 while Kiren Rijiju will visit Suchetgarh in Jammu the next day. Minister RK Singh will visit Khellani in Doda district and Shripad Nayak will hold a meeting at SKICC in Srinagar.

Notably, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has paid several visits to Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have been continuously speaking about the merits of the move in several public events following the scrapping of Article 370.

Previously, a delegation of foreign diplomats mostly from Latin American and African countries visited the newly created Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in a guided tour and were briefed by the army on the security situation.
