Terrorist killed in encounter in J-K's Awantipora, operation underway
An unidentified terrorist has been eliminated in an ongoing encounter at Meej in Pampore area of Awantipora, said Kashmir Zone Police on Thursday.
"Meej Pampore encounter- So far one unidentified terrorist killed; operation on," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
On June 16, three unidentified terrorists were eliminated in an encounter that started at the Turkwangam area of Shopian, police said. (ANI)</p>

Security forces and militants engaged in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday. A gunfight between the two sides is still underway.
Srinagar(Jammu and Kashmir): An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Pampore area of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday, police said.
A cordon-and-search operation was launched in the morning by the forces at Meej in the Pampore area of south Kashmir's Pulwama after receiving specific information about the presence of militants, a police official said.
He said the operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces.

A gunfight is underway and further details are awaited, the official said.
It is to be noted that 68 terrorists have been killed by the security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir, in several encounters between April 1 and June 10, the time when the entire country was under lockdown to combat the coronavirus.
According to the data compiled by security forces, the highest activities of the Hizbul Mujahideen have been recorded this year and 35 local terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen have been eliminated.
