Srinagar: Two persons have been arrested in the case of Ashmipora Shopian fake encounter by Jammu and Kashmir police and were produced in District Court in Shopian on Tuesday. They were also sent on eight days of judicial remand.

According to sources, three labourers from Rajouri district, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad, Muhammad Abrar and Ibrar Ahmad were killed by the army in a staged encounter in Amshipora area in Shopian on July 18.

However, their families identified them from pictures and said that they had gone to Shopian for work. The families also demanded a probe into the incident.

Earlier the army admitted that powers vested under AFSAPA had been exceeded. Police also said that DNA tests of the trio have been matched with slain Rajouri youths.
