Unidentified gunmen shoot civilian in J&K's Srinagar

A civilian was allegedly shot by unidentified gunmen in Nawakadal, Srinagar district. The civilian identified as Mehran Ali Pathan succumbed on the way to hospital.

Srinagar:A civilian was allegedly shot by unidentified gunmen in Nawakadal, Srinagar district on Tuesday. Even though the civilian identified as Mehran Ali Pathan was brought to hospital, he succumbed on the way. "It could be a gun war," police said.

"Today, unidentified gunmen fired upon 25-year-old Mehran Pathan at Bulbul lanker area of Nawa Kadal. During the attack, Pathan was critically injured," a senior police official told ETV Bharat. He further said, "Pathan was evacuated to SMHS hospital but succumbed on the way. He is a resident of Srinagar's Safa Kadal area."

Hospital authorities too confirmed that the youth was brought dead to the facility. Meanwhile, police have registered a case and an investigation has been initiated. Officers are working to establish the circumstances which lead to this terror crime. The area has been cordoned off and a search in the area is going on.
