Release Kashmiri political prisoners on parole: JKHCBA to Centre

Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association have urged the Centre to release Kashmiri political prisoners on parole or interim bail owing to their deteriorating health condition amid the Covid crisis.

Srinagar:The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) on Wednesday once again expressed concern over the deteriorating health condition of Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail.

During a special meeting chaired by Association's President Nazir Ahmad Ronga on Wednesday, the members took note of the deteriorating health condition of Shabir Shah, Asiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Aftab Hilali and other political prisoners detained in Tihar Jail. The association demanded the release of all these prisoners given covid situation, a statement issued by the association's senior spokesperson Advocate GN Shaheen read.

The statement further said, "The Tihar Jail administration has failed to provide medical facilities to Kashmiri prisoners, putting the lives of these detainees at stake. The prison is overcrowded, raising fears that the inmates could be infected with the coronavirus as the prison has no sanitation or hygiene facilities."

While requesting the release of prisoners, the association urged the Union and state governments "to release these political prisoners on parole or interim bail so that their lives can be saved."
