Primary schools re-opened in Srinagar, Rajouri; headcount remains low

Schools re-opened in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir after the restrictions were eased by the state administration. However, most schools appeared deserted.

Srinagar:Primary schools re-opened in Srinagar and Rajouri districts on Monday, after restrictions imposed in the valley were eased, weeks after the modification of special status granted to the state. However, the headcount in most of the schools remained low.

Schools re-opened, headcount remains low

According to reports, 95 schools including primary schools reopened in Rajouri district but many remained deserted. The high schools, higher secondary schools and degree colleges reportedly remained close in Kashmir.

While addressing a press conference, Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary of Planning and Development had said that administration is planning to restore 'full functionality' of schools and government offices.

Restrictions on communication continued in most parts of the Valley barring some areas, while mobile Internet services in five of ten districts were suspended again in Jammu on Sunday, a day after being restored.

The government has said that it would ease and lift the restrictions in a phased manner in Jammu and Kashmir.

No untoward incident was reported from the areas where relaxation was provided.
