Pellets fired at ex-MLA Surankote's house in J&K's Poonch; investigation underway

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said that the pellets were fired from 12 bore rifle on the streetlights with the splinters hitting ex MLA Surankote's house at Lassana Poonch.

Surankote: Unknown persons have fired pellets on the house of Surankote ex-MLA in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Saturday. Police said that the pellets were fired at the house of Ex MLA Surankote Choudhary Mohd Akram at his village Lassana in Poonch late on Friday night. They further revealed that the the pellets were also shot at the streetlights in the vicinity of the former legislator’s residence.

As per police sources though no loss of life or injury has been reported in the incident, the pellets have damaged a few of the streetlights. They also said that few splinters from the firing also hit the walls of the house of ex-MLA Surankote. It is learnt that the pellets were fired from a 12 bore rifle. Local sources said that the house of the ex-MLA Surankote is located close to the forest area.

There are speculations that the poachers loitering in the area were behind the firing. Soon after the incident, security forces rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. According to police sources security forces have launched a massive search operation to nab those responsible for the firing at the former MLA's residence. They further revealed that all possible angles are being investigated.

Pellet guns are usually used by poachers. Earlier this month the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a poacher for trying to poach migratory birds at Dal lake and seized a double-barreled rifle from him.
