Srinagar: On the fifth death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, Srinagar today witnessed a partial strike with business establishments closed and public transport remained off the roads. In Srinagar's Shehr Khaas area, shops and other business establishments remained closed, but people and private vehicles were seen plying on the city roads.
Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani was killed by the security forces during a gunfight at the Kokernag area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on July 8, 2016. Following the killing, separatists issued clarioncalls for strikes in response to his killing by the security forces. In response to the strike calls, all shops, educational institutions were used to remain closed and stone-pelting incidents used to take place in several areas of the city. However, in the last few years stone-pelting incidents have dropped significantly.
