We don't know if the people for whom the decision has been taken are happy or sad.

We consulted Andhra Pradesh assembly before deciding on bifurcation. Check the records of this House. What is Constitutional travesty is that they have authorised themselves and this Parliament the powers of J&K Constituent Assembly.

Indian constitution does not have only Article 370. It also has Article 371 A to I. They provide special rights to Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Andhra, Sikkim etc. Today when you're scrapping Article 370, what message are you sending to these states? That you can revoke Article 371 tomorrow? By imposing President's rule in the north eastern states, and using the rights of their Assemblies in the Parliament, you can scrap Article 371 too? What kind of Constitutional Precedent are you setting in the country?

In the last 70 yrs, several times we saw demands that union territories be converted into states but this is probably the first time in history that a state has been converted into union territory. There cannot be a bigger blow to federal structure than this.

I don't think you are thinking about PoK, you violated all rules and converted a state into a Union Territory overnight.

You say that it is an internal matter. But it is being monitored since 1948 by the UN, is that an internal matter? We signed Shimla Agreement & Lahore Declaration, what that an internal matter or bilateral?

S Jaishankar told Mike Pompeo a few days before that Kashmir is a bilateral matter, so don't interfere in it. Can J&K still be an internal matter? We want to know. Entire Congress party wants to be enlightened by you.

Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and Sajjad Lone were placed under house arrest late Sunday.

The developments have triggered intense speculation about plans to modify the special status granted to the state under the constitution.

Mehbooba Mufti after the house arrest, reacted on Twitter- "How ironic that elected representatives like us who fought for peace are under house arrest. The world watches as people & their voices are being muzzled in J&K. The same Kashmir that chose a secular democratic India is facing oppression of unimaginable magnitude. Wake up India."

Srinagar: Kashmir remained on edge as the authorities stepped up security at vital installations and in sensitive areas, suspended mobile internet services and either "arrested" or "detained" several leaders in fast-paced developments on Sunday night.

Officials said restrictions on the movement of people would come into force in Kashmir Valley at the crack of dawn.

Mobile Internet services have been suspended in Kashmir, the officials said, adding that satellite phones were being provided to police officials and district magistrates.

After the Jammu and Kashmir administration curtailed the Amarnath Yatra and asked pilgrims and tourists to leave the valley at the earliest on Friday, anxious residents continue to throng markets to stock on essentials and serpentine queues have been visible outside shops and fuel stations.

The Anantnag district administration, in view of "panic stocking",ordered all fuel station dealers not to sell petrol or diesel without permission from the district magistrate or an authorised officer.
