Parliament passes JK Reorganisation Bill, state to be split into 2 UTs
The Bill to create two UTs -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh -- was passed in the House by 370 votes in favour and 70 against.
Shah later withdrew the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2019, saying that the clauses incorporated in the legislation will automatically come into effect in the two new Union Territories. The Bill will also be withdrawn from Rajya Sabha.

Indian constitution does not have only Article 370. It also has Article 371 A to I. They provide special rights to Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Andhra, Sikkim etc. Today when you're scrapping Article 370, what message are you sending to these states? That you can revoke Article 371 tomorrow? By imposing President's rule in the north eastern states, and using the rights of their Assemblies in the Parliament, you can scrap Article 371 too? What kind of Constitutional Precedent are you setting in the country?
In the last 70 yrs, several times we saw demands that union territories be converted into states but this is probably the first time in history that a state has been converted into union territory. There cannot be a bigger blow to federal structure than this.

Section 144 of CrPC to be imposed in Jammu from 6 am
Schools and colleges to remain closed in Udhampur from 5th August till further orders; to remain closed in Doda on 5-6 August.
University shall remain closed on 5th August 2019. All Under Graduate and Post Graduate examinations to be held on 5th August, 2019 stand postponed.

Restrictions imposed under section 144 CrPC in district Srinagar with effect from midnight 5th August (Monday) which shall remain in force till further orders. There shall be no movement of public & all educational institutions shall also remain closed: Jammu and Kashmir Government.
Section 144 imposed in Reasi district, classwork of all schools, colleges, & academic institutions, both private & government, shall remain suspended from 5th August till further orders, as a precautionary measure: Indu Kanwal Chib, Deputy Commissioner Reasi (Jammu & Kashmir).

After the Jammu and Kashmir administration curtailed the Amarnath Yatra and asked pilgrims and tourists to leave the valley at the earliest on Friday, anxious residents continue to throng markets to stock on essentials and serpentine queues have been visible outside shops and fuel stations.
The Anantnag district administration, in view of "panic stocking",ordered all fuel station dealers not to sell petrol or diesel without permission from the district magistrate or an authorised officer.
