Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir): Pakistan on Tuesday violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and mortar shelling, PRO Defence Jammu said.

"#Pak continues #nefarious activities along #LoC. Today, initiated unprovoked #CeasefireViolation by small arms firing & shelling with #Mortars in #KrishnaGhati sector, Distt #Poonch(J&K). #IndianArmy retaliates befittingly," it tweeted.

Earlier on August 1, an Indian Army jawan was killed when Pakistan opened heavy fire on forward posts along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. Sepoy Rohin Kumar was critically injured and he later succumbed to his injuries.

Pakistan has been firing and shelling forward areas along the LoC one to two times a day in several sectors for almost the past one month.

"There was an increase of 70 per cent in incidents of ceasefire violations in 2019 in comparison to 2018. If we compare with the last year, there is an increase of 50-60 per cent. Pakistan and its agencies aim to send more number of terrorists while they violate ceasefire," Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh had said.
