Pakistan violates ceasefire along in J-K's Kathua

Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire round 10.30 pm on Friday by resorting to unprovoked firing that continued overnight along the International Border (IB) in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Border Security Force guarding the IB retaliated effectively.

Jammu: Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by resorting to unprovoked firing that continued overnight along the International Border (IB) in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.

Firing on the border outpost in Kotha area started around 10.30 pm on Friday, drawing effective retaliation by the Border Security Force guarding the IB, they said.

The officials said the exchange of fire between the two sides continued till 4.15 am but there was no report of any casualty or damage on the Indian side.

However, it caused panic among the border residents who were forced to spend the night in underground bunkers, the officials said.

Earlier on July 5, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and intense shelling with mortars along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Balakote sector of Poonch district.

Pakistan has been violating the bilateral ceasefire on the LoC with impunity since the beginning of this year.

Over 2,400 ceasefire violations have been made by Pakistan during this year so far on the LoC and the international border in J&K.

This has impacted the lives of civilians living close to the border in J&K. Their lives, homes, cattle and agricultural fields stand at peril due to these shelling and firing
