Recalling one of the incidents, Lieutenant General Sharma said, "I remember back in the year 2004, when I was posted in Baramulla. I once stopped at a college and talked to the youth over there. I asked them do you know what happened in the Carnage of 1947? One of them replied, yes we know that the Indian Army came, looted and plundered us....raped our women. It was the Pakistanis who came and saved us".

Lieutenant General Sharma went on to say " To tell them the right narrative, I made a documentary and the local cable operators were not willing to play it. They were scared that the militants would kill them if they play the documentary. I had to tell them the choice is yours, either you face the militants or you face us".

He also mentioned that one of the prime reasons for the Kashmiri population to feel alienated is the geography of India.

Lieutenant General Sharma said, "You need to understand that the geography of the place is such that it is a bit isolated from mainland India. It makes the people in the valley look inward and make them feel insecure. As geographically segregated from the mainland, a lot of people when come to the mainland say, we are going to India."

He stated that for the people of valley, Kashmir happens to be a separate place than India.
