NIA raids multiple locations in J-K in terror funding case

Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir): A day after eleven employees of the Jammu and Kashmir government were sacked for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday carried out raids at multiple places in Kashmir and arrested several persons including the chairman of a Darul Uloom.

According to the sources, the NIA team along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF raided several places in Anantnag and Srinagar.

In Srinagar, the agency raided 'Sirajul Uloom’ located at Dalal Mohalla Nawab Bazar and seized some office records and a laptop. The chairman of the institute Adnaan Ahmad Nadvi has also been arrested by the agency.

Similar raids were conducted at Anantnag's  Pushroo, Sunsooma, and Achabal areas where five locals were arrested. Those arrested from Anantnag include Javaid Ahamad Mir (shopkeeper), Umar Bhat (shopkeeper), Ovais Ahmad Bhat (Lab Technician), Tanveer Ahmad Bhat (shopkeeper), and Zeeshan Ameen Malik (Pharmacist).

Among the employees axed by the J-K government on Saturday were two sons of Hizbul Mujahideen founder Syed Salahudin. Officials sources said the designated committee constituted by the UT government for scrutinizing and recommending cases under Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution of India, in its second and fourth meeting recommended the dismissal of three and eight employees, respectively, from the government service.

On Saturday, a Delhi Court ordered the framing of charges against four alleged Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists observing prima facie material against them for receiving funds from Pakistan to plot terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Court had ordered framing of charges under various charges dealing with criminal conspiracy, waging war against the country, and under provisions of UAPA. Special Judge Parveen Singh, in his order, observed that the terror outfit had formed a frontal organization Jammu Kashmir Affectees Relief Trust (JKART), the purpose of which was to fund terror activities.
