Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested a man from Budgam in connection with the Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naveed Babu case.

According to official sources identified the apprehended person as Tafazul Hussain Parimoo.

"He played a key role in supplying arms and ammunition to accused Tariq Mir (ex Sarpanch, Maldera, Shopian), who further supplied them to Hizb militants in Shopian," official sources said.

Earlier in January this year, Hizbul Mujahideen militant Naveed Babu was arrested along with an associate and DySP Davinder Singh by police from south Kashmir's Kulgam district.

The charge sheet, filed by the NIA in the first week of July, has accused Singh and others of allegedly waging "war against India" with the help of Pakistan-based terrorists and members of the country’s high commission in Delhi.

Besides Singh, others named in the charge sheet are Babu, his brother Syed Irfan Ahmad as well as the group's alleged overground worker Irfan Shafi Mir, alleged accomplice Rafi Ahmad Rather and businessman Tanveer Ahmad Wani, a former president of the Line of Control Traders Association.

The NIA is likely to file the supplementary charge sheet in the case against the former sarpanch and Parimoo later.
