External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Kashmir on a surprise visit on Monday and met with the families of students trapped in Iran.

Srinagar:External Affairs Minister SJ Sankar arrived on Kashmir on Monday and met with a family of trapped students in Iran.

The Foreign Minister has arrived in Kashmir at a time when parents are appealing to the government to bring back students from Iran for fear of the Coronavirus.

Sources told ETV Bharat that Jaishankar met the parents of students trapped in Iran at the Kashmir International Conference Center on the banks of the Dal Lake in Srinagar.

Earlier, the Union Minister had said that efforts were being made for the return of Kashmiri students from Iran. He also said that the screening process had begun and discussions were underway with Iranian authorities in this regard.

He added that the Indian embassy in Iran is in touch with the Indians and they will soon return to their country.

It is worth mentioning that Iran is one of the countries where an increase in the number of deaths has been seen due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. China, Italy and Iran are the three countries where coronavirus has spread widely.

Meanwhile, parents of the Kashmiri students have appealed to the Union Minister to bring back the students from Iran without any delay.
