Militants open fire on BJP leader in J&K, one ultra killed

Militants attacked a BJP leader in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, leaving his personal security guard injured, while an ultra was also killed in the retaliatory action. The militants shot at on Ghulam Qadir, a district vice president of the BJP, near his residence at Nunner in Ganderbal.

Srinagar: Suspected Militants attacked a BJP activist, Ghulam Qadir in Nuner area of Ganderbal in Central Kashmir on Tuesday.

While an unidentified militant was killed by police, one PSO sustained injuries in the incident.

According to sources, the incident took place on Tuesday evening when militants attacked the house of BJP worker activist, Ghulam Qadir. But PSO’s timely retaliation resulted in the killing of one militant in the exchange of fire.

"This evening, suspected militants fired upon a BJP worker at Nuner area of Ganderbal district. However, the attempt was foiled by the security forces and the political worker is safe," a police officer said.

He further said, " During the attack, one unidentified militant was gunned down while constable Mohammad Altaf got injured. He was evacuated to a hospital but later succumbed to injuries."

Immediately, constable Altaf rushed to a nearby hospital, where his health condition is stated to be stable, sources said.

Meanwhile, the police have been cordoned the area and searches are underway. This comes a month after Bhupinder Singh, BDC Chairperson of block Khag, by militants in his native village in Budgam district.
