4 in NIA custody for plotting terror acts in J&K, major cities across country

The National Investigation Agency conducted a series of raids and arrested four persons for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to conduct terror act in Kashmir Valley and major cities in the country. The elite probe agency conducted searches at 16 locations across the Kashmir valley. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested persons are terror associates/OGWs of various proscribed terrorist organisations and have been providing logistical and material support to terrorists and facilitating them in their nefarious designs

Srinagar (Jammu-Kashmir): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday arrested four persons hatching a conspiracy to unleash terror activities in Jammu & Kashmir and major cities across the country case after it conducted searches at 16 locations across the Kashmir valley.

In a statement, the NIA spokesman said, "Yesterday (October 12, 2021), NIA conducted searches at 16 locations in Srinagar, Pulwama and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir and arrested four accused namely Waseem Ahmed Sofi r/o Chattabal Srinagar; Tariq Ahmed Dar r/o Shergarhi, Srinagar, Bilal Ahmed Mir alias Bilal Fufu r/o Parimpora Srinagar and Tariq Ahmed Bafanda r/o Rajauri Kadal, Srinagar."

The spokesperson further said that 'the case pertains to information received regarding hatching of conspiracy both physically and in cyberspace for undertaking violent terrorist acts in J&K and other major cities including New Delhi, by cadres of proscribed terrorist organisations Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al Badr and similar other outfits and their affiliates such as the Resistance Front (TRF), People Against Fascist Forces (PAFF).

The terror associates/OGWs of these organisations conspire with their handlers and commanders based in the neighbouring country and also indulge in the radicalization of local youth for the purpose of recruiting and training them in the handling of arms, ammunition and explosives, NIA further stated.

It also stated that these terrorists and cadres have undertaken several terrorist acts, including killings of numerous innocent civilians and security personnel, unleashing a reign of terror in the valley of Kashmir, thereby challenging the writ of the state.

Accordingly, NIA had registered the case as RC 29/2021/NIA/DLI) dated 10.10.2021 and initiated the investigation. During the searches conducted yesterday several electronic devices, incriminating jihadi documents, records of suspicious financial transactions were seized.

According to the NIA, a preliminary investigation has revealed that arrested accused persons are terror associates/OGWs of various proscribed terrorist organisations and have been providing logistical and material support to terrorists and facilitating them in their nefarious designs.
