Lashkar associate arrested with grenade in north Kashmir's Baramulla: police

The accused was apprehended by the joint forces of Baramulla Police and 52 RR at a checkpoint at Shranz Crossing Nagbal Chandoosa.

Baramulla (Jammu and Kashmir): Security forces on Saturday claimed to have arrested a LeT militant associate and recovered a grenade from his possession in Chandoosa area of Baramulla district of north Kashmir. A police spokesman said that on a specific information regarding movement of terrorists in Village Nagbal Chandoosa, joint forces of Baramulla Police and 52 RR placed checkpoint at Shranz Crossing Nagbal Chandoosa.

One suspect person who was coming from Shrunz towards Nagbal Chandoosa tried to flee while noticing joint naka party but was apprehended tactfully, the police spokesman said. During his personal search one grenade was recovered from him and was taken into custody immediately, added the spokesman. The accused has been identified as Mohd Ashraf Mir son of Mohd Shafi Mir, a resident of Laridoora Chandoosa. Police said that the accused is a surrendered terrorist.

A case under Indian Arms Act and UA (P) Act has been registered in Police Station Chandoosa and investigation taken up. The arrest of the alleged LeT associate comes a day after the Baramulla Police booked four persons for their alleged involvement in “anti-national activities” in the district. A police spokesman said, “Acting tough against anti-national elements, Police in Baramulla booked four persons under Public Safety Act for their involvement in anti-national activities after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority”.

The accused have been identified as Javaid Hussain Yatoo son of Farooq Ahmad Yatoo resident of Goshbugh Pattan, Jan Nisar Khaliq Ganai son of Abdul Khaliq Ganai resident of Chanderhama Pattan, Abid Parvaiz Hajam son of Parvaiz Ahmad Hajam resident of Andergam Pattan and Nisar Ahmad Wani son of Late Abdul Samad Wani resident of Sultanpora, Pattan.

The accused have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu. In Kishjtwar district, an ‘active Hizbul Mujahideen' militant associate along with a Chinese grenade was arrested by the security forces during a joint operation.
