Srinagar: A day before Diwali, Pakistan army on Friday resorted to heavy firing and shelling along line of control in three districts of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
"Pakistan today initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling mortars along LoC in Kupwara's Dhani area (Tangdar). Our soldiers are giving befitting response," Col Rajesh Kalia, Defence Spokesperson based in Srinagar said.
He further said, " The shops in the area have also been closed are residents are being evacuated to safer places."
Meanwhile, heavy shelling from Pakistan side has also been reported from Baramulla's Uri, Bandipora's Suarez and Kupwara's Keran area.
"Pakistan army have also resorted to heavy firing in Gurez's Izmerg and Bagtore areas, Uri's Haji peer sector and Kupwara's Keran sector. The continuous firing has triggered panic among residents. They are being evacuated to safer places," Col Kalia said.
He said that a few shells landed in the residential areas however no loss of life or injury was reported so far.
Panic gripped residents in Kupwara
Panic gripped residents of border town Karnah in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district as armies of India and Pakistan traded heavy fire along the Line of Control on Friday morning.
As per reports, as soon as the firing started locals started moving towards safer places.
Many areas including Dhani, Sadhpora, Hajitra, Jada were effected.
